Additional browns targeted for Lynx Lake
PRESCOTT, Ariz. –– For the first time in its history, Fain Lake is going to be stocked with brown trout, and Lynx Lake will receive browns for the first time since 2005.
The Arizona Game and Fish Department reported the lakes will receive 5,000 brown trout each the week of Feb. 5. The fish will average 8 inches in length.
According to Matt Chmiel, fisheries program manager for the Arizona Game and Fish Region 3 office in Kingman, this is the result of surplus fish.
“We’re excited to provide some additional opportunities to anglers who fish these popular lakes,” Chmiel said.
Because the fish are coming straight from a hatchery, Chmiel said any number of catching techniques should work. More piscivorous than rainbows, he suggests using spinners and flies, but believes they’ll also take bait.
Zen Mocarski, public information officer for the Kingman office, said fishing remains one of the best deals in regards to daily entertainment. An in-state license runs $23.50 and $15.75 for a trout stamp, and they are valid for all of 2012. Those interested can find the fishing license that best suits their needs on the Game and Fish website at www.azgfd.gov/eservices/licenses.shtml.
For a statewide fishing report, log on to the Game and Fish Department's website at www.azgfd.gov. Licenses are available at Game and Fish offices as well as at fishing license dealers throughout the state.
