Urban Fishing Bulletin: Rainfall effects on fishing

Recent weather events brought large amounts of runoff into some lakes. For many lakes, the fresh water helped to improve oxygen levels and lower the pH levels making for better fishing conditions. A few lakes became more turbid from suspended soil sediments brought in from runoff or muddy water from the canals.

Application Deadline is Tuesday

Hunters are reminded that the application deadline for the elk and pronghorn antelope draw is 7 p.m. (MST) this Tuesday, Feb. 9, 2010.

Remember, applications must be received by the department by that time; postmarks don’t count. If you haven’t yet submitted your application, it is recommended you hand deliver it to one of the seven Game and Fish offices across the state.

There is no online application service available.

Elk and pronghorn application deadline almost here

The application Feb. 9 deadline to submit elk and pronghorn hunt applications is rapidly approaching – don’t procrastinate any longer. There is no online application service available.

Applications must be submitted to the Arizona Game and Fish Department by U.S. mail to P.O. Box 74020, Phoenix, AZ 85087-1052 or hand-delivered to any department office by Tuesday, Feb. 9, 2010 by 7 p.m. (MST) – postmarks do not count.

Limited javelina tags remain

Time is running out to get one of the limited spring javelina tags remaining before the last two hunting seasons close for the year. The hunt permit-tags are available for purchase in person at any of the seven Arizona Game and Fish offices.

2009 URBAN FISHING BIG FISH RECORD WINNERS ANNOUNCED
Topping the list of 2009 Urban Program Big Fish-of-the-Year official winners was a 26.9 pound channel catfish caught and kept by Tuy Sayasavanh from Green Valley Lake in Payson. The huge brute is an all-time Urban Fishing Program catfish record.

Printed copies of 2010 Pronghorn Antelope and Elk regulations now available

The printed regulation booklet for Arizona’s 2010 elk and pronghorn antelope hunting seasons are now in license dealer stores and department offices throughout the state. Hunters that are interested in a tag will need to submit an application through the lottery-draw process.

Shooting range grant deadline is Friday

Urban Fishing Bulletin: "Lunker" incentive trout kick off New Year

To kick off the New Year in a big way, the Urban Fishing Program will be stocking incentive size trout at all Program waters during the week of January 11-16. Many trout will be from 13-18 inches, and some even larger ones are expected to tip the scales around six pounds.
