More than 25,000 sandhill cranes now in Sulphur Springs Valley
WILLCOX, Ariz. – The Arizona Game and Fish Department is estimating there are more than 25,000 sandhill cranes in the Sulphur Springs Valley in southeastern Arizona, with the largest concentration of 15,343 at Whitewater Draw Wildlife Area in McNeal.

The Willcox Playa area has 8,291 cranes, the Safford Valley/Duncan area 846, Bonita 775, and there are less than 100 at Crane Lake and elsewhere in the area. Game and Fish conducted its annual crane count in the valley Jan. 6. Read more

Bald eagle event set for Flagstaff on Feb. 25
Did you know that Arizona is visited by over 200 bald eagles during the winter?  To learn more about these amazing birds and to see live eagles, the public is invited to attend the Annual Bald Eagle Celebration on Saturday, Feb. 25, at the Willow Bend Environmental Educational Center at 703 E. PHOENIX — It’s time once again to get your motor running and head down the highway to support sick, injured and orphaned wildlife, and those used for education outreach, during the 12th annual Bikers Soar for Wildlife Poker Run, which begins at 9:30 a.m. Sunday, Feb. 19. Read more

Online applications for 2017 pronghorn, elk hunts being accepted until Feb. 14
The Arizona Game and Fish Department now is accepting online applications for 2017 hunt permit-tags issued through the draw process for pronghorn antelope and elk. Read more

Hank Saw to bring "Buck, Buck, Moose" cookbook tour to Ben Avery Feb. 6
Hank Shaw describes himself as “a cook who hunts, fishes and forages – not the other way around." There is a difference, albeit subtle, Shaw once said during an interview with The Huffington Post. “My overarching goal is to convince more people who are interested in real, honest food into the outdoors, to forage, fish and hunt for themselves.” Read more

Volunteers can help spotlight endangered black-footed ferrets
SELIGMAN, Ariz. — The Arizona Game and Fish Department is seeking volunteers to assist with spotlighting efforts to help document the population of endangered black-footed ferrets in Aubrey Valley and on the Double O Ranch near Seligman. Read more

Arizona's deer, elk clear of chronic wasting disease
The Arizona Game and Fish Department has announced that Arizona continues to be clear of Chronic Wasting Disease (CWD), a neurodegenerative wildlife disease that is fatal to deer and elk. Department officials did not find any cases of CWD in the 750-plus deer (mule and white-tailed) and elk that were harvested by hunters and voluntarily submitted for testing in 2016. Read more
