The department is accepting grant applications now through Jan. 15 by 5 p.m. (MST). Shooting clubs, sportsmen’s groups and government agencies operating public shooting ranges are encouraged to apply. Privately owned for-profit ranges are not eligible for this program.

Urban Fishing Bulletin: Catfish and half-off license

The fall catfish stocking season wraps up the week of November 2-7 with another 14,000 pounds of fish delivered to the 20 Urban Fishing Program waters in the Phoenix and Tucson areas. Starting in a couple weeks, fish stocking trucks change to rainbow trout.

The 2009 Urban Fishing license (class U) is now 50% off for the last two months of the year, costing only $9.25. Stop by any Game and Fish office or license dealer (over 300) and enjoy excellent fishing this time of year at all Urban Program lakes for trout, bluegill and catfish.

Urban Fishing Bulletin: Trout and bluegill

PAYSON TROUT STOCKINGS TO BEGIN AT GREEN VALLEY LAKES OCT. 20
Payson residents and visitors can welcome back the trout to beautiful Green Valley Park on Tuesday, Oct. 20. Over 900 Colorado-grown rainbow trout will be delivered to kick off the trout stocking season that features 11-14 inch rainbow trout delivered every two weeks.

BLUEGILL STOCKINGS COMING WEEK OF OCT 26-31
Catchable size bluegill are delivered twice each year to Urban waters, in the fall and spring. A truckload of 11,000 bluegills will be delivered from Arkansas on the week of Oct. 26-31. Each urban lake will receive from 80-100 fish per lake surface acre. Bluegills are fun to catch for all ages and will bite all day long.

Mailing error made in elk, antelope hunter questionnaires

If you are an elk hunter and get an antelope hunter questionnaire from the Arizona Game and Fish Department, don’t despair. Conversely, if you are an antelope hunter, don’t be surprised if you get a questionnaire intended for an elk hunter.

Tuesday, Oct. 13 by 7 p.m. (MST) is the latest that the Arizona Game and Fish department will accept applications for the random drawing process for spring bear, turkey, javelina and buffalo.

Applications may be hand delivered to any of the seven department offices around the state, or sent by U.S. mail to Arizona Game and Fish Department, Attn: Drawing Section, PO Box 74020, Phoenix, AZ 85087-1052. Postmarks don’t count and there is no online application process available.
